What is MissionLog?

MissionLog is a simple yet powerful software service that allows individuals and teams to keep track of time by entering it and generating reports. MissionLog’s interface is designed to be easy and quick to minimize the learning curve and maximize team participation.

Who is MissionLog For?

To put it simply, any individual or organization that needs a simple way to track time. MissionLog was designed and developed by professionals in the tech and creative industries, but MissionLog works best for people who may:

Bill hourly for their work or want to keep track of time spent on projects.
Have clients and/or projects.
Work on average of 8 or less different projects a day.
Want to keep using their billing and accounting software and just need an easier way to log time.
Currently keep time in spreadsheets and want a more secure, organized and centralized system.
Use productivity software for tasks and internal communications separate from time tracking/timesheets

Who is MissionLog not for?

It’s important that MissionLog is a good fit for you. MissionLog won’t work well for people who may:

Want to send invoices directly from their time tracking software.
Want to attach rates to their hours.
Want to keep track of their tasks and project management in the same software as their time.
Want your time tracking software to have a built in timer, performance algorithms, and other features you find yourself not using.

Does MissionLog have built in accounting or project management features?

No. The goal of MissionLog is to provide an easy way to track time, after that you can create quick, customizable reports on the fly and export a CSV file to use in your bookkeeping, accounting and project management software as you like.

Does MissionLog work with my accounting software’s API?

At this time, you can take the data from CSV files and load it into your accounting software. We are looking into developing connectivity with accounting software in the future.

Are there different account type for individuals and teams?

No, right now a one user account works the same way as a multiple user account. If you grow from “me” to “we”, you simply add users and you will be billed accordingly.

What are the different User types?

If you’re the person who created the Account, you’re the Owner. You can create Basic Users and Admin Users. You can control these options by going to “Users” selecting “Edit” on the user you want to make changes to, and at the bottom of that page you can “Automatically add this person to every new project, Automatically add this person to all current projects, Set user as an Admin.”

How do I add time to MissionLog?

Go to the Add Time page, where you enter Client, Project, Activity, Time, and Tasks for a given Date. The next questions will address each of those in more detail.

How do I add, edit, or delete Clients, Projects and Activities?

The Lists page has everything you need to handle these lists. You can only add, edit and delete if you have admin privileges. Alternatively, in the Add Time Page, if you enter a Client, Project and Activities?

What do I do with old Clients and Projects I don’t need to add time to anymore?

In the Lists page, you can select any Client or Project and select “Edit” where you can deactivate that Client or Project so that the time you entered still shows up in reports.

What’s the difference between “Deactivate” and “Delete” for Clients, Projects and Activities?

For Clients, Projects and Activities, Deactivate just removes those Clients and Projects from your Add Time page so you can keep things tidy, but they’ll still show up in reports. If you want to remove them entirely, including the time you entered in them, you can Delete. But be warned, Delete is an action you cannot undo, where as you can always Activate a Deactivated Client, Project or Activity.

What if I don’t have Clients?

We recommend you enter your business name as the Client and that will be the default. You can also call it “None” or get creative and call it “The Aliens”.

What if I don’t have Projects?

You don’t need to enter Projects. If left blank, it will default to Uncategorized.

Do Projects have to be tied to Clients?

Yes. As we’re trying to control what could be chaos all Projects must be tied to a Client. You can choose to utilize the “Uncategorized” option as needed.

What is an Activity?

An Activity is best used to group a type of service or task so you can sort by them later in reports. For example, a freelance astronaut might have Activities such as “Simulation, Research, Training” – while someone in finance might have Activities such as “Bookkeeping, Meeting, Reporting”.

Do I need to enter an Activity?

No. Activities can be left as uncategorized.
